Belgaum Fort is situated in the east of the city, a blend of Hindu-Muslim architecture. Inside the fort you can see temples and mosques co-exist in perfect harmony. The fort was built in the 12th century A.D by the local Ratta rulers. It was renovated and built on by successive rulers. At the entrance gate, you will find two Shrines - one dedicated to Lord Ganesha and the other to Goddess Durga.
Gokak falls is a beautiful place which is located 60 km away from Belgaum. This falls has a height of about 170 feet. The river Ghataprapha after winding a course of a long route takes a leap of 52 meters, over a rocky bed 170 feet down. The falls is famous for its spread and shape. There is a hydro-electric power generating station functioning here since 1887.
This hamlet is just 16 Kms from Belgaum city. Rakaskop literally means a hamlet of a Rakkasa (Giant), who is stated to have lived on a hillock near the village. A cavern in laterite on the hillrock resembling a huge seated human figure is shown by the people to remind his past existence. The dam across the river Markandeya supplies drinking water to the residents of Belgaum municipality.
One of the oldest temples of Belgaum is the Kapileshwara temple, also known as "Dakshina Kashi". It is said that the journey to the 12 jyotirlingas of india is incomplete without a visit to this temple. The festival Mahashivratri is celebrated here with great enthusiasm and devotees from far and wide visit the venue to feel religious essence. The lingam here is believed to have self originated.
