Indian Museum
Indian Museum was built in the year 1874, and it has a beautiful structure. The oldest museum in India, it has one of the rare collections of archeological artifacts. The entrance to the museum houses an original Lion Capitol, the national symbol of India.
Victoria Memorial
Victoria memorial is one of the major attractions at Kolkata. It situated at 1 km fro Queensway. This Memorial was founded in 1906 A.D. and opened in 1921 A.D. The Cupolas were completed in 1935 A.D. It is a two-stored edifice and enclosed within the marble walls of this elegant domed and mina retted monument is India's finest tribute to the memory of the British Raj.
Birla Planetarium
Birla planetarium is one of the largest Planetariums in Asia; it gives a ringside view of the astral play of celestial bodies. The internal diameter of the tomb measures 82 feet and you can recline to get the finest views. The show is available in3 different languages that are Hindhi, Bengali and English.
Dakshineswar
Dakshineswar one of Kolkata's Tourist Attraction is 12 km. from Kolkata and 3 km. from Belur Math across the river Ganga. On the bank of the river is a beautiful navaratna temple (with nine towers), dedicated to Bhabatarini (Goddess Kali). It was built by Rani Rashmoni and this temple is associated with the great religious prophet, Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa. There are 12 Siva temples and a temple of Radhakrishna at Dakshineswar.
Howrah Bridge
Howrah Bridge is an excellent example of the engineering techniques of the early 20th century. The whole bridge is 450 m long without any pylons in the Hoogly River. The bridge also has the distinction of being the busiest bridge in the world catering to around 100,000 vehicles and innumerable pedestrians.
Fort William
William Fort was constructed in 1781 after the unfortunate happenings of 1756 in which many British soldiers with their families were killed by Siraj-Ud-Daula. A large area around the village of Govindpur was cleared of the forests and this fort was constructed, which for some time also lent its name to the city.
Marble Palace
Marble palace is one of the important places to visit at Kolkata. It was built in the year 1835 by Rajendra Mallick, it is an exquisite art gallery. Marble palace houses the marvelous objects of art, sculptures, pictures & oil paintings. Its major highlight includes the Reuben's masterpieces. You can also find the original paintings of Rembrandt, Reynolds and Van Goyen etc.
Belur Math
Belur Math is the headquarters of Ramakrishna Mission is another tourist attraction of Calcutta. The place was founded in 1899 and houses a structure that was designed to be a church, temple, and mosque all in one.
Kali Mandir
Kali Mandir is the temple dedicated to Kali, goddess of destruction. This is the temple from which the old village Kalikata took its name, which, in turn, also gave the city its name.
